Bill Haggard joined UNC Asheville as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs in July 2006. Dr. Haggard came to UNC Asheville from Western Carolina University, where he had served for nine years as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and for five years as Dean for Student Development. Earlier in his career, Haggard served as Assistant Dean of Students at Florida State University and Director of Youth Ministries at First United Methodist Church in Clearwater, F.L.
At UNC Asheville, Dr. Haggard leads the Student Affairs division, which includes Residential Education, Citizenship Education, the Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership program, housing and dining services, the Student Health and Counseling Center, Highsmith University Union, Campus Recreation, Campus Police, student crisis management, Multicultural Student Programs, Emergency Management, and Environmental Health and Safety.
Dr. Haggard is a frequent presenter at national and regional conferences and a guest lecturer on topics related to student judicial affairs and crisis management . He holds a doctorate in higher education from Florida State University and a master’s degree in counselor education from the University of South Florida.
Dr. Haggard is active in civic life and has serves on a number of boards, including the Buncombe County Schools Superintendent’s Advisory Council, Asheville Rotary Club Board, the Youth Council of Central United Methodist Church, and the Administrative Board of the Haywood Street Congregation, a ministry for homeless citizens.
He and his wife, Linda, have two grown daughters.
