Bruce Peterson

Governor Appointee: 2009-2013

Bruce Peterson is a native of Asheville and attended Lee H. Edwards High School. He received his B.S. in Health & Physical Education and Biology, an M.A. in Health & Physical Education, and an M.A.in Educational Administration from Western Carolina University.

Bruce's educational career includes Teacher, Coach, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and Principal of an Elementary School, Middle School, and High School with Asheville City and Buncombe County Public Schools. He served as a faculty member and football coach at Western Carolina University. After he retired from education, he became District Director for Congressman Heath Shuler and is now retired.

Bruce serves the community on the Board of Western North Carolina Communities, the Folk Heritage Committee, Chairman of the Western North Carolina Regional Livestock Market Committee, Member of Central United Methodist Church, North Carolina Teacher’s Association, National Education Association, WNC Beef Cattle Commission, North Carolina Cattleman’s Association, National Beef Cattleman’s Association, Western North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, Western Carolina University Athletic Hall of Fame, and the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
